I edited the Brazilian version of this documentary. The film won the first BBC Globies Awards in the Collaboration category – it was a partnership with the teams of BBC Africa Eye Investigations and Long Form Audio. It was also one of three finalists of Premio Gabo, the most prestigious Journalism award in Latin America.
The short synopsis reads:
- “In 2017, three innocent Brazilians were sentenced to ten years in prison for drug trafficking in a country they had never been. Meanwhile, the British national suspected of planning and carrying out the crime vanished from the police radar. Why, then, did Cape Verdean justice convict the Brazilians, despite all the evidence pointing to their innocence? And where is the British man who has never been held accountable for the crimes of which he is suspected, according to Brazilian authorities?
A BBC News Brasil investigation reveals that a mysterious British national, owner of a luxury yacht, may be behind an attempt to smuggle millions of dollars' worth of cocaine from Brazil to Europe. A Raposa reconstructs the journey of the yacht Rich Harvest, which set sail from Natal, in Rio Grande do Norte, bound for Europe, but was intercepted in Cape Verde with more than a tonne of cocaine on board.
The investigation spans the globe in search of the mysterious Briton. And when Fox is finally found, one overriding question emerges: will he ever be held to account for the crimes of which he stands accused?”
